Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek has written off former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard's chances of being appointed manager of his country. And he reckons any out-of-work Polish coach could do a better job than the sacked Aston Villa boss.

Gerrard has been linked with a shock move to take charge of Robert Lewandowski and co. and succeed Czeslaw Michniewicz, who left after an underwhelming World Cup campaign.

However, former Polish FA president and Juventus star Boniek, who is still a vice-president of UEFA and was manager of Poland himself in 2002, reckons appointing the man who won the title with the Ibrox club would be a terrible idea.Boniek pointed out: "Any Polish coach who has been sacked or resigned recently would be better than Gerrard.

He doesn't really know anything about the Polish national team. He is not the manager for Poland. They have to come up with a new man quickly because the first games for the Euros are in March."Gerrard was sacked by Villa in October after just 11 months in charge with the Birmingham club having won just two out of 12 league games.Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.READ NEXT:
