Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Rangers players won’t be caught up in another storm of racial abuse in the Czech Republic. Gerrard led his players back to Prague on Wednesday afternoon for the Europa League showdown with Sparta - just six months after an ill-tempered knockout tie with rivals Slavia sparked a torrent of sickening taunts and behaviour aimed at a host of the Ibrox club’s black players.
Disgraced Czech international defender Ondrej Kudela was hammered with a 10-game ban after UEFA found him guilty of calling Glen Kamara a ‘f****** monkey’ during an ugly flashpoint late on in the match.
And several of Kamara’s team mates, including striker Kemar Roofe, were then targeted with disgusting online abuse at the hands of thug Czech fans.
