Steven Gerrard is the man Leeds United now want as their new boss according to reports - and he'll form an old Rangers alliance if he's appointed. The former midfielder has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa earlier this season, although he's been reported as on the shortlist for fellow Premier League side Leeds.

They sacked Jesse Marsch earlier this month as they find themselves locked in a relegation scrap, having been knocked backed by previous targets Carlos Corberan, Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot.Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is also believed to be someone they admire but the Sunday People claim it's his former Rangers counterpart that Yorkshire chiefs are 'plotting' a move for and that they will be 'turning to Gerrard after rejections from other candidates.' It would be a deal that would see the England legend's former assistant at Ibrox return to where he is held in hero status, Gary McAllister. He is heralded in a famed Leeds midfield quartet that also included David Batty, Gordon Strachan and Gary Speed.

They helped bring the title to the club he could be about to try and help keep in the top flight as assistant manager.Gerrard is keen to prove himself at England's top table.

Winning the title at Ibrox won him Aston Villa admirers but it did not go to plan and was out in the door inside less than a year, but he is 'desperate to repeat the success had at Rangers in the Premier League' alongside McAllister.Avoiding relegation would be his number one goal with huge ramifications if it weren't to be achieved.
