After over 40 years on our airwaves, radio fans were dealt a heartbreaking blow on Tuesday 13 February, when the BBC officially announced the death of DJ Steve Wright, who had famously helmed programmes on Radio 1 and Radio 2, as well as fronting tv shows such as Top of the Pops.

The much loved presenter was last on air on Sunday, when he hosted a special pre-recorded Valentine’s edition of his hit show Love Songs, with thousands of listeners having tuned in to listen to the heartwarming collection of romantic tunes.

Sadly however, just two days later Steve’s death was confirmed by the BBC, with a statement from his family reading: "It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright. "In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father Richard.

Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK's most enduring and popular radio personalities.
