Steve Clarke last night swatted away the notion that his Scotland side has already got one boot planted in Germany 2024.Clarke and his players arrived at the AEK Stadium here in sweltering Larnaca last night to go through the final preparations ahead of their latest Group A showdown with Cyprus - less than an hour after rival boss Temur Ketsbaia declared that Scotland are certs to make it to next summer’s tournament.And he immediately reminded his own players that the hard work is still to be done despite a blistering start to the campaign which has seen them take 12 points from four Group A matches, toppling Spain into second spot.
Clarke said: “Listen, you guys know me well enough by now. That’s not the mindset we want to have. We want to treat every opponent correctly and want to get as many points on the table as we can.“This is another opportunity for us to add to our total so far.
So I don’t agree with that. We’ve been working on getting better game by game from day one. It’s something we’ve always done, just tried to improve all the time.
I said after Euros 2020 that we’d improve as a group and I think we’ve done that. But I still feel there is more improvement to come.“Yeah, it’s good to be where we are just now.
