Stephen Robinson urges St Mirren players to ignore social media critics and warns of Motherwell fightback

Stephen Robinson doesn’t need to be told when, how or why his teams have fallen short.That’s because he insists he’s his own biggest critic.

But while the experienced manager knows how to brush off the worst of the trolls, the St Mirren gaffer admits he fears for the Paisley club’s young players who have to deal with the often faceless critics that spout abuse on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Robinson and several members of his squad have already come under fire after the club’s dismal Premier Sports Cup campaign. The 47-year-old revealed he dodges the criticism by steering clear of social media altogether.But he’s concerned the younger players in the Buddies dressing room could well be adversely affected if the boo boys target them this season.Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “If you read and believe everything that’s said then you wouldn’t sleep at night. “We obviously wanted to do well in the cup.

But you’re asking people to play after two-and-a-half weeks and without a squad being properly assembled.“So, for me, the timing’s not right – even though I got slaughtered for saying that.“I don’t hear the noise on social media.
