Stephen Robinson delighted with 'brave' St Mirren performance in opening day Hibs win

Stephen Robinson hailed his side for not throwing in the towel after St Mirren secured all three points in a five-goal thriller against Hibs.

The Buddies were two in front and coasting at Easter Road after a polished first-half performance saw them deservedly ahead.Captain Mark O’Hara netted the opener from the penalty spot, with Toyosi Olusanya slotting home the second as the Saints dominated proceedings early on.The Leith side threatened a dramatic turnaround as strike pair Adam Le Fondre and Christian Doidge levelled things up in the second half with fine finishes past Zach Hemming.But substitute Alex Greive pulled a fantastic winner out of the hat with just two minutes left on the clock, sending the travelling support behind the goal into rapture.

Robinson, who picked up his first ever win as manager at Easter Road in the Premiership, was delighted to see his players rally late on to pick up all three points in what was a perfect start to their domestic campaign.

Robinson said: “I was delighted with the performance. “To come here to Easter Road and dominate with the quality we did was excellent.“We’ve worked on lots of things pre-season, added players to it and Richard Taylor is like a new player.“Caolan Boyd-Munce and Conor McMenamin are settling in.“To a man they were excellent.“You’re always going to face a comeback, against a very good Hibs side who have recruited heavily.“We knew it would be a test and when they launch the ball up to Christian Doidge anything can happen.“We always felt we were in it through our decisions.“Zach Hemming did well to play the ball out quickly and we showed bravery to go for a winner and not settle for a point.“I thought we deserved it.
