Star Trek.The actor and political activist played Tincoo on an episode of Star Trek Voyager.However, she took a break from her acting career in the 2000s to focus on her campaigning work.Kamala was one of the campaigners working on the Equal Rights Amendment in the USA.This is an amendment to the constitution that would promise equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex.She even created and directed a film called Equal Means Equal about this, pushing for change.Speaking about her decision to focus on this, away from acting, she admitted she felt like she had a duty to.Kamala explained: “One out of three women has something that's happened to them that was deeply traumatising.“And they don't have the brain space to take this on, this huge wrong.“And I have it.So I felt like when I found out what was going on, I had to do it.”So she made a film about this and managed to get several states to sign on and agree to the amendment.Kamala added how it was at this point that she felt she could get back into the entertainment industry.She said: “Then we got Nevada, Illinois and Virginia. “And when that happened, I felt like I could give myself a gift of going back to what I wanted for me and not feel like it was selfish because I had achieved and at least got it that far. “Especially since nothing had happened since 1970. “And so I decided that it was a gift to myself and then as soon as I decided that, it was Covid.”However, despite this, Kamala has a few projects in the pipeline, including playing Markie in an episode of This Is Us.As well as this, she’s appeared in Lunch Therapy and Black Jesus.Many will know Kamala best for her role in Star Trek Voyager as Tincoo in the episode Virtuoso.Her character was.
