St Peter’s boss Paul McTaggart paid tribute to his “outstanding” young players for standing up to the challenge of facing a top flight team for the first time.
The Paisley club couldn’t have faced a much tougher task when they took on Premier Division side Beith in the second round of the South Challenge Cup.
Their cause wasn’t helped by the fact McTaggart was without nine senior squad members, leaving him to call up five prospects from St Peter’s youth development squad.And while ultimately the club lost 4-1 to their experienced opponents at New Western Park, McTaggart was delighted with the application of his team and hopes the experience will stand them in good stead for their upcoming league fixtures.
