St Mirren Women players selflessly gave up their time on Christmas Day to help deliver festive hampers to those less fortunate in Paisley. And head coach Kate Cooper believes the thoughtful move helped bring them closer to their supporters and the Renfrewshire community. The St Mirren Charitable Foundation’s Festive Friends programme was a success yet again this year – with a new festive tea party between Christmas and New Year also proving very popular. For many Saints players, this was their first time volunteering for the initiative.

And Cooper, who has helped with Festive Friends since its introduction, feels that will bring them even closer to the club off the field. She told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “Festive Friends is such an established part of St Mirren now and we made more than 200 deliveries again this time around.“We also had a high tea for around 80 in between Christmas and New Year on the 30th.

The Foundation really are incredible with what they do.“Most of our players came in on Christmas Day to help with the deliveries and it was great for them to see the community they’re part of first-hand.“It was a first time for a lot of them and it’s important they see they’re part of the Paisley family.

It’s vital they feel part of something and it’s not all just about training and playing football.“Some of the men’s team were in as well, including Curtis Main and his family.
