St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin outlines key advantage ahead of Renfrewshire derby clash

Jim Goodwin insists his side have a key advantage ahead of a first Renfrewshire derby in more than two years. St Mirren landed a mouth-watering clash with Greenock Morton in the Betfred Cup group stage, as well as dates with Queen of the South, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park.

The meeting will be the first competitive action between the pair since St Mirren beat Morton 2-1 in April 2018 when they lifted the Championship title.And Saints manager Goodwin admits a provisional start date of 17 October for lower league clubs has loaded the dice in the big guns favour.

He said: “There’s no doubt about it being an advantage. In this particular competition, the Premiership clubs are rightly massive favourites. "It’s even more so now.
