Springhill Amateur Boxing Club enjoyed some great results at various shows last month. At the Newarthill Boxing Club show at the General Motors Club in Holytown, Drew Campbell won his contest against Cooper Irvine of the host club in the 2009 48kgs class.Though he won on points in a very hard-fought contest, Drew’s will to win, constant pressure and variety of punches won him the contest. He was also awarded the trophy for Best Away Boxer, a terrific accolade for him in what was only his fourth fight.Ethan Storrie and John Deighan were also in action at the West Club and Novice Show, organised by Antonine ABC in Clydebank, with each of them picking up a win.Storrie came up against Joe Hainey of Doon Valley ABC in the 2010, 35kg class, with his movement and punch repertoire helping him to come out on top.Deighan faced Harrison Ewart of Drumchapel ABC in the 2010 48kgs class, dominating the contest from start to finish, and forcing his opponent to take counts in the first and third rounds.Head coach Frank Delaney said: “All of the Springhill coaches are delighted with the progress all three of these boys are making, in their first year of competitive boxing.”Springhill were asked by the BBC to take part in their ‘Points of View’ show, where coaches Frank Delaney, Chris Dougan and David Mullen were asked their opinion on the show ‘Idris Elba Fight School’.Coach Delaney said: “Everyone was delighted that the club was chosen to be part of this, and they were delighted to welcome the BBC cameras into the club.”Springhill’s Jayson Sneddon and Jayden McGarvey have fights coming up soon, as well as several boxers who are entered into the MTK Box Cup in Glasgow in June, and the William Wallace Box Cup in Stirling in July.Follow
