The creator of hit BBC drama Spooks has called for a reboot of the spy thriller after nearly a decade off screen. David Wolstencroft says the time is perfect to recreate the gritty series about MI5 operatives with a more diverse cast, written by a new team.
He said: “I would make a very big argument for bringing the show back even with a new younger writing team. “I think we would have a greater racial diversity in the cast.
I’d want more women writing and directing it – it was quite a male-heavy show. It’s the way everything fell at the time.” Wolstencroft believes a new version of the show, which drew more than seven million viewers at the height of its popularity, would sit well with a modern audience. “The stakes would be even higher.
