Naveed Patel, 32, was convicted of causing the death of 76-year-old David Eyre, by careless driving. Patel had been driving at 59mph in a 40mph zone seconds prior to the collision. In a police interview after the crash, Patel blamed Mr Eyre. Manchester's courts are some of the busiest in the country with a vast array of cases heard every week.
