Spain is delaying a rollout of strict tourist registration rules following backlash from the tourism industry. New regulations were set to be introduced from October 1, which would have required visitors to provide hotels and holiday homes with personal details, including address and contact information.
Under the new rules guests would have to complete a digital application upon arrival. The information provided would then be passed on to the Ministry of the Interior.
But the tourism industry slammed the rules, with some concerned that it was “incompatible with EU law” due to the amount of data to be collected.
Concerns were raised by CEHAT, the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation, and by the FEHM Majorca hotel federation over the rules and urged the government to reconsider.
