The labor union CGT, which is represented by Denis Gravouil on the administration board of the Cannes Film Festival, is still preparing a large demonstration on May 21 but it will take place along Boulevard Carnot, far away from the Croisette and from the festival’s headquarters. There will also be a rally of hospitality workers, including staff from hotels, cafes and restaurants, in front of the Carlton hotel – whose famous guests this year include Martin Scorsese — on May 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The rally, which will likely involve protesters banging saucepans to express their anger, is technically allowed because the front of the Carlton is a private area.

Soundgarden have reached a settlement in their ongoing legal battle with the widow of the band’s late frontman Chris Cornell. It means that new songs Cornell was working on with the band prior to his death in 2017 will now be released.That new material was at the heart of the legal battle, with a dispute over who owns the recordings and how they might be released.

The widow of singer Chris Cornell and his former bandmates in Soundgarden said Monday that they have resolved her lawsuit against them, clearing the way for the release of the band’s final recordings more than five years after his death.

Soundgarden and late frontman Chris Cornell‘s widow Vicky have settled their long-standing legal dispute and will release the band’s final recordings.In 2019, Cornell filed a lawsuit against the remaining members of the band and their manager over the rights to several unreleased Soundgarden songs, claiming the tracks entitled her to “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in royalties.The case was finally settled earlier in 2021 as a judge ruled that there was no evidence to suggest that the band’s surviving members are withholding royalties from Cornell.Elsewhere, Cornell filed a separate case in court against the band after they attempted to buy out her stake in her late husband’s band for what she has called a “ludicrously low” price, while the band also took Cornell to court in 2021, claiming that she had locked them out of the official Soundgarden social media accounts.Now, a joint statement from the band and Cornell reveals that they have settled their dispute and “reached an amicable out of court resolution”.It added: “The reconciliation marks a new partnership between the two parties, which will allow Soundgarden fans around the world to hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on.”“The two parties are united and coming together to propel, honour and build upon Soundgarden’s incredible legacy as well as Chris’s indelible mark on music history – as one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists of all time.”A post shared by Chris Cornell (@chriscornellofficial)Chris Cornell died by suicide on May 18, 2017.
