Sony Pictures Television Brings First-Look Deal With Spanish Producer Espotlight Into Focus

Sony Pictures Television has struck a multi-year, co-development deal with Anxo Rodríguez’s Espotlight. The first-look deal will see SPT co-developing and co-producing productions with the Spanish production house and comes after Sony launched its first Spanish-language scripted series filmed in Spain, football drama La Academia, which was for Prime Video and Catalan pubcaster 3Cat, earlier this year.

Espotlightis behind the likes of Prime Video’s The Farad, Atresplayer’s Un Nuevo Amanecer and Disney+’s You Would Do it Too. “This deal underscores SPT’s intent to be in business locally in Spain and work with the best local players,” said Matthew Justice, EVP, Head of UK and Europe, SPT. “Anxo and the wider Espotlight team are proving that they have an incredible eye for content, working with some of Spain’s top creators, delivering amazing shows, and we are thrilled to join forces in order to produce great shows together for local and international audiences.” Rodríguez launched Espotlight in 2020 and is currently working on Prime Video horror series Dime tu Nombre.

He also owns talent agency Alter Ego Talent House, which provides access to Spain-based writers, directors, actors and composers.

His background is in production, law and business affairs specialized in the entertainment industry.
