SNP MP brands Keir Starmer 'one-trick phoney Prime Minister' over Waspi women

An SNP MP has branded Keir Starmer a "one-trick phony Prime Minister" over his Government's decision not to compensate the Waspi women.Dave Doogan said that the Labour leader "says one thing and does another" during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday.It comes after the Labour Government decided against compensating millions of women born in the 1950s - called Waspi women - who say they were not given sufficient warning of the state pension age for women being lifted from 60 to 65.This was despite several senior Labour politicians - including Starmer - showing support for the women when they were in oppositionAngus and Perthshire Glens MP Doogan said: “Before the election, this Prime Minister said he would lower energy bills by £300.

Since he took office, they’ve gone up by £149. He said he would protect the winter fuel payment but now he’s in power he’s stripped it off our pensioners.“And he said he lined up for many photos with Waspi women saying he’d have their backs and he’s just betrayed them in the most scandalous way possible.

This is now the defining characteristic of this one-trick phoney Prime Minister, who says one thing and does another.“In Scotland, the SNP are 16 points ahead in the polls.

Does he understand why the people of these islands, especially those of us in Scotland, treat him with such contempt?”But Starmer hit back, mocking Doogan for the SNP's poor performance at the general election which meant they lost their spot as the third biggest party in the House of Commons.He said: “They used to ask those questions from this sort of area with very many MPs not so long ago.
