SNP Government accepts findings of Cass Review in full and will implement recommendations

The Scottish Government has accepted the full findings of a landmark report into gender identity services for young people.SNP health minister Jenni Minto told MSPs on Tuesday that her government has accepted the findings of the Cass Review and would implement its recommendations.

SNP ministers had been accused of playing down the report when the Greens were part of the Government. But John Swinney later praised it as "substantial" and "evidence-based".

The Greens' scepticism is believed to have hastened their sacking from the Government.Dr Hilary Cass's review looked at gender identity services for under-18s in NHS England.It found gender medicine to be operating on "shaky foundations" when it came to the evidence for medical treatment like prescribing hormones to pause puberty or to transition to the opposite sex.Minto said in a statement: "In my parliamentary statement in April, I advised that a senior multi-disciplinary team in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer would consider the recommendations of the NHS England commissioned Cass Review and engage with relevant Health Boards."And that I would provide an update Parliament."As a result of that work the Cass Review: Implications for Scotland Findings Report was delivered to Parliament on 5 July, the earliest opportunity following the pre-election period."This Report is an important milestone in how we work together to deliver better gender identity healthcare for young people in Scotland."The Scottish Government has accepted the findings of the Report in full and work has started to implement its recommendations."Recommendations of the report which are being implemented include gender services for young people not taking place in adult sexual health settings,
