The 2022 Met Gala raised a record $17.4 million, museum officials said Tuesday.  The annual fundraising gala was held on the first Monday in May in New York City this year, as is tradition.This is the first time it has been held on its regularly scheduled date after nearly two years of a pandemic hiatus.  This year's theme was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," the second installment of a two-part series paying homage to American stylists and designers.The approximately 400 celebrities and personalities in attendance were asked to abide by the "gilded glamour" dress code.  Kylie Jenner, Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kim Kardashian attend The 2022 Met Gala. Michael Appler On Wednesday evening in New York City, Colin Firth and the cast of HBO’s “The Staircase” celebrated its premiere at the Museum of Modern Art.Created by Antonio Campos with showrunner Maggie Cohn, “The Staircase” marks HBO’s turn at the true crime story of Kathleen Peterson, who was found dead at the bottom of her staircase in 2001. The story of what followed and came before — her husband Michael Peterson’s indictment and trial, unearthed secrets, treatment by prosecutors and twisting family drama — was first the subject of a 2004 documentary miniseries, then republished and given new episodes by Netflix, and now fictionalized in HBO’s limited series led by Firth and Toni Collette. “I think about Truman Capote and ‘In Cold Blood,’ which was itself a first of its kind,” Parker Posey, who plays the prosecuting attorney Freda Black in the series, told Variety at the premiere.

Toto Wolff has declared he would like to see three Chinese Grand Prix races on the Formula One calendar as he urges the motorsport to target growth in the Far East nation.F1 is set for it's maiden Miami Grand Prix this weekend, the first of two races in the United States on the calendar this season, with Austin later in the year while Las Vegas will join the schedule in 2023 with a night race. That gives the US more races than any other country on the calendar and more than some continents have combined, though there is expected growth with additional races on the calendar in the coming years to increase on the current 23-race schedule.The Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai is set to be one of those additional races, returning to the Formula One calendar in 2023 after an extended absence amid the coronavirus pandemic, but Wolff believes there should be additional races in China on the schedule.“We’ve been in Shanghai before and couldn’t be there the last two years, but this is an important market for us.

remains the worst accident of its kind in the United States, but, as a new documentary shows, it could have been so much worse.In the four-part Netflix docuseries “Meltdown: Three Mile Island,” which debuted Wednesday, May 4, Rick Parks — a former leading engineer at the facility — reveals how cover-ups, falsifications of safety tests and downright dangerous corner-cutting caused the terrifying nuclear event and could have potentially triggered a second, bigger one that would have affected a huge chunk of the Eastern Seaboard.What Parks found risked America being on “the verge of an apocalypse” capable of triggering “a meltdown that could take out Philadelphia, New York City and Washington, DC,” Tom Devine, of the watchdog group Government Accountability Project, says in the doc.The partial meltdown — caused by a valve malfunction — occurred on March 28, 1979, and was rated a level five out of seven on the international nuclear event scale as an “accident with wider consequences.”But, from the beginning, the plant’s operators and government officials tried to downplay the disaster, minimizing the accident’s severity and refusing to mandate an evacuation of the region.For Parks, a former Navy man and a longtime believer in nuclear energy, the accident immediately put the industry’s future “into doubt,” he says in the documentary.
