Snow is on its way to Scotland - meaning the Beast from the East may be coming back with a vengeance. A collapsing Polar vortex could spark a major freeze this month, similar to the epic storm from February 2018, according to some forecasters.

Such plunging temperatures could cause further difficulties as the country battles to cope with the cost-of-living crisis - with many still reluctant to turn on the heating, reports the Mirror.

The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for for the whole of Scotland from 6pm on Sunday until 11am on Monday, January 2 - coming after a snow warning for northern, central Scotland until noon on New Year's Day.

The forecaster warned of the risk of injuries from slips and falls, as well as icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.Meteorologists are reported to be keeping a close eye on a pool of cold air spinning over the North Pole which has the potential to trigger a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event, also known as an SSW.
