Snow bother for Law and District AAC runners at West District Cross Country Championships

Law and District AAC athletes braved the snow and cold to take part in the West District Cross Country Championships in Strathaven earlier this month.But the weather was not a deterrent for the athletes and supporters in attendance, and there were many fine performances.The first race of the day saw U13 Alexander Wotherspoon win silver in the 3200m race, with team mate Jamie Mackie finishing in 12th place.In the U13 girls race, Emily Taylor was sixth with team mates Freya Togneri in 27th, Eilidh Boyle in 46th and Nieve Fitzpatrick in 49th.The U15 girls event saw Lucy Taylor in a great 11th place, followed by Olivia Inglis in 25th with a strong run, closely followed by 300m specialist Erin McGurk in 31st and Sophie Nelson in 45th.The Under-15 boys performed well with John Frood finishing in 10th place, followed by Cameron Chambers in 14th.

Unfortunately, team-mate Blair Beverley had to pull out with injury.Law’s two U17 girls both had fantastic runs with Jessica Inglis finishing second to win silver and team-mate Neve Elliott completing the course in a brilliant 13th place.Under-17 Ryan Kellock took 15th place in the 5460m race and U20 Logan Whitton was 22nd in the 6370m race.Elaine Boyle competed in the seniors race, finishing in 44th place and Jen Beattie 55th.A big well done also went to Law’s senior men, who competed in the final race of the day over 7.5km.

Allan Neill, Darran Muir, Grant MacKenzie, Finn Milligan, Mark Milligan, Martin Kay and John O’Leary put in a solid showing in the snow.Elsewhere, there was great news for senior Emily McNicol as she returned to racing after several months of injury.She took part in the Telford 10km, near Birmingham (incorporating the English 10km Championships), and completed the
