Despite it being 40 years since Princess Diana tied the knot with Prince Charles in a lavish ceremony watched by 750 million people around the globe, a piece of their wedding cake has stood the test of time.
While hardly edible, it’s a real life piece of history so it’s no surprise that it was put to auction to coincide with Charles and Diana’s milestone anniversary.
It was expected the ‘large slice’ from one of the couple’s 23 cakes would fetch between €350 and €590, but the selling price went up considerably when it finally went under the hammer this week.
The grand total? £1,850 (€2,180). It’s new owner? Luxury boat charterer Gerry Layton from Leeds who bought the sweet creation online.
