Sleep expert warns 'never snooze alarm' as it could be making you gain weight

If you are someone who keeps snoozing your alarm in the morning, you are actually making yourself more tired - and that extra time in bed may not be good for you at all and in fact, experts say it could lead to you gaining weight.Taking to TikTok, health expert Jordan Bruss, says that it's bad news for people who tell themselves that they just need an extra five minutes before they get up for work.

She says: "If you’re somebody who sets multiple alarms, I have some bad news for you. Don’t come for me, just trying to help."The sleep guru explains that when you hit snooze on your second alarm, already your REM is affected.

REM, also known as rapid eye movement sleep goes by many names, including active sleep, desynchronised sleep, paradoxical sleep, rhombencephalic sleep, and dream sleep, according to sleepfoundation.org.The foundation explains that REM is the final stage of sleep and is characterised by relaxed muscles, quick eye movement, irregular breathing, elevated heart rate, and increased brain activity.

Most adults need about two hours of REM sleep each night with this part in the sleeping process playing a crucial role in memory consolidation, emotional processing, brain development, and dreaming.In the TikTok video, she continues: "Working to multiple alarms every morning really disrupts your REM cycle frequently.
