A six-year-old boy has proved he’s got a head for heights after scaling Ben Nevis for charity.Little Kaleb Kelly was joined on the recent trek by mum Nicola as well as uncle, gran and older sister. And it was all for a good cause as Kaleb raised over £500 for the Samaritans Shoe Box Appeal.Last month, we told the story of youngsters and staff at after school club Wee Gems Armadale having raised over £2000 for the appeal, which sees children in Third World countries given presents to open for Christmas.Kaleb and his family then decided to go the extra mile - and then some - by climbing the UK’s tallest mountain to help aid the fundraising efforts.Speaking to the Courier, proud mum Nicola said: “As a family we quite like climbing the hills.

Ben Nevis was Kaleb’s first Munro. He got the biggest one done first!“Wee Gems had decided they were going to raise funds for Samaritans Shoe Box Appeal this year and we wanted to do something to help out.

We went for climbing Ben Nevis when we were on a family holiday.“My mum works for a bank and they match-funded what Kaleb raised so there was over £1000 all in between the two of them.”She added: “It was an incredible achievement but it was really good fun.

The money got sent over to Samaritans and knowing that it’s all for a good cause makes it all worth it.” Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
