Sir Anthony Hopkins last night celebrated becoming the oldest recipient of a Best Actor Bafta, but missed the ceremony because he was doing some painting back home in Wales.
And the 83-year-old from Port Talbot later admitted he didn't even know he'd won the coveted title and assumed the sudden cheers from the room next door was because there was a football match on TV.
The Silence of the Lambs star, who normally resides in Malibu, had returned to his old stomping ground a few days prior to Sunday's awards ceremony and was in the running for a gong for his acclaimed portrayal of an elderly man struggling with dementia in the upcoming film The Father.
