Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed he received a text from legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after his side’s disastrous 9-0 defeat to Leicester earlier this season.

The Saints were subjected to a Premier League record-equalling loss last October on home soil to the Foxes amid a miserable run of form.

And Hasenhuttl has revealed how he was given a pick-me-up by 13-time Premier League winner Ferguson, which inspired him to trump Leicester in the reverse fixtures in January. “I received an SMS from Alex Ferguson [after the 9-0] - I didn't know him,” he said on Sky Sports’ The Football Show. “If I had never lost 9-0 I would have never had contact with him.
