Colman Domingo, “Sing Sing” is set at the eponymous maximum security prison and is based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program where incarcerated people are given the opportunity to write and stage theatrical productions in prison through RTA.

Domingo plays John “Divine G” Whitfield, who has a story credit on the film, and he’s joined by formerly incarcerated men who themselves are alumni of the RTA program, including Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin and Jon-Adrian “JJ” Velazquez.

Since its release “Sing Sing” has been racking up nominations and awards; it took home both Outstanding Lead Performance (Domingo) and Outstanding Supporting Performance (Maclin) at the 2024 Gotham Awards and was named a top 10 film of the year by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review, plus the screenplay was recognized as the Best Adapted Screenplay of the year by NBR.It’s currently up for three Academy Awards: Best Actor (Domingo), Best Adapted Screenplay (Kwedar, Clint Bentley, Maclin, and John “Divine G” Whitfield), and Best Original Song (“Like a Bird” – Abraham Alexander and Adrian Quesada).Now, the time has finally come for “Sing Sing to be released on streaming to be watched and rewatched as often as you like.
