Sid Owen, who played cheeky Ricky Butcher in EastEnders from 1988 until 2000 and has returned to Albert Square three times since, has opened up about whether he would consider another return to Walford in the future. The actor, who is starring in a new film called A Day With An Eating Disorder, has said that there are no immediate plans for him to return to the soap, but “never say never.” “It would be my fifth time but there’s no plans right now,” he says. “I stay in touch with everyone so you never know what might happen in the future.” There is certainly the possibility of a return, as this month has seen his character Ricky’s ex-wife Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer, coming back to the square to sort out her sister Sonia’s troubles. There are other familiar faces popping back to East London later this year, too, including Michael French as Bianca’s dad David Wicks and Louisa Lytton as Ruby Allen.

Sid, who is now 52 and was just 16 when he joined EastEnders, has most recently appeared on TV in the prison-set reality show Banged Up in 2023.

He is one of a group of celebrities who agreed to appear for free in filmmaker Lynn Crilly’s project about eating disorders and mental health, A Day With An Eating Disorder, that also features Missing actor Paul Cooper, reality star Jessica Impiazzi, comedian Bobby Davros and former Hollyoaks star Mikayla Dodd.

Lynn specialises in supporting those living with conditions such as anorexia and bulimia, and her own daughter Samantha stars in the film, 20 years after she was diagnosed with an eating disorder and OCD herself.
