Shrewsbury make an audacious bid to re-sign former England goalkeeper Joe Hart

Shrewsbury have made an ambitious bid to bring free agent Joe Hart back to the club. Shrews boss Sam Rickett has revealed he offered Hart the chance to return to his hometown club, where he began his professional career 16 years ago.

Hart, 33, has been released by Burnley after two years at Turf Moor and Ricketts spoke to the former England and Manchester City No 1 about rejoining the League One side.

Hart, who made 58 appearances for Shrewsbury before joining City in 2006, told Ricketts he may return when he stops playing and that he hopes to join a top-flight club in the meantime.
