Shotts Bon Accord boss John McKeown reckons they’ve put a target on their own backs after their stunning start to the season.A 3-2 win at title favourites Johnstone Burgh on Saturday sent Shotts top of the West of Scotland First Division after four perfect games. And McKeown: “We have set the standard and probably put a target on our backs now.“But that’s what you want, you want to start the season well.“Loads of people have tipped us for relegation.
It is still early days so we just want to keep winning games, take it week to week, and see where it takes us.”McKeown says his youngsters are passing their exams with flying colours after sinking the title favourites and moving two points clear of Petershill at the summit after four games. All the goals came in the first half as the sides traded blows.Ben Richard fired Shotts in front inside 60 seconds before Burgh – who were without injured ex-Rangers star Kyle Lafferty – levelled through Kieran Brophy nine minutes later.Within three minutes, Ally Martin restored their lead from the penalty spot and then Paul McGeough had them 3-1 up inside 23 minutes.
Burgh made it 3-2 when Brophy struck again in 35 minutes, but Shotts held out in the second half.Delighted McKeown said: “To go away to most people’s favourites for the league and score three goals, and create a lot of chances, is really promising.“I was just looking for the boys to go and give a good account of themselves and what would have been would have been, but we were ruthless with our chances and defended with our heart and soul at the end so it was great to see.“The young boys have just brought a freshness to the place.
