Shotts do double over Beith as McKeown's men stun Premier side in cup once again

Shotts Bon Accord boss John McKeown heaped praise on his players after they pulled off a cup double over Premier Division Beith.The Bonny sent Beith packing in the Scottish Junior Cup earlier in the season and on Saturday they sent them crashing out of the West of Scotland Cup at the second round stage with an enthralling 3-2 victory at Bellsdale Park.Beith are currently second in the top flight so it was another scalp for a side sitting ninth in the division below, as two Ally Martin penalties and a Paul McGeough header sent them through to the third round.Delighted McKeown said: "It was a great game for the neutral, end-to-end stuff."I'm not going to say Beith didn't have chances because our goalkeeper Johnny Murdoch was magnificent."But I felt we created a lot of chances as well and deserved to win the game."We had already put Beith out of the Scottish Cup so to put them out the West as well is no mean feat."Since we last played Beith, they've hardly lost a game and they are sitting second in the Premier Division so to go to their own backyard and do it again - especially when they would have had the bit between their teeth because of the last result - just makes it that wee bit extra special."The players were great and really worked their shift."We changed the system a wee bit after the St Cadoc's defeat [on December 30].

We could easily have been derailed by that result but we just got right back on track."A home tie with league rivals Gartcairn is the reward for Shotts, with the match set to be played on Saturday, February 23.McKeown added: "It is a tough draw for us.
