A baffled builder was hit with a whopping 51 driving fines in one day and left with a fine of more than £6,000. John Barrett, 56, built up the cautions over a five-month period - but all of them were delivered in one fell swoop in March 2022.He had been out at work when his wife Lisa, also 56, let him know that dozens of letters had arrived at their home, containing fines that totalled an eye-watering £6,350.John had been charged £130 each time he had driven up a residents-only street in Chiswick, west London, during his trip to the gym.
But he claims he had a permit for his Tesla which allowed him to use the road without any penalty, The Mirror reports. After dad-of-three John attempted to get in touch with Hounslow Council about the incorrectly-issued fines, he discovered the authority would not accept a blanket response for all of the charges.
So he was forced to fire off emails in response to each of the 51 individual fines. He said: "It's ridiculous, no warning or anything.
No letter to say you've been caught on camera driving on this road and we don't think you should be.“It’s incredible. Imagine if I was someone really vulnerable.
