Sherrie Hewson has revealed she was axed from Coronation Street on the same day she was rushed to hospital for emergency eye surgery.
The actress played ditsy corner shop boss Maureen Webster for four years before being given the boot in 1997. Sherrie has revealed how on the same day she discovered her contract was up she was taken to casualty midway through filming as she experienced dark clouds in her left eye.
Doctors gave the star laser eye surgery to remove blood and water from her retina, before Sherrie headed back to work on the cobbles.
Sherrie, 70, says that when she was due to head home after her dramatic day, she was sent for a meeting with new producer Brian Parker.
