A Sheffield road remains closed more than 24 hours after the start of a police stand-off with a man believed to be armed with weapons.

Police were first called to Broad Street in Sheffield at around 7pm on Monday (February 10). People living in a nearby block of flats have been evacuated and Sheffield Parkway remains shut in both directions.

Public transport in the area is disrupted as a result. In an update shortly after 10pm on Tuesday night, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "As officers’ efforts in negotiating with a man in Sheffield to bring an incident to a safe close continues, we continuing to ask for the public’s support.

Our officers have been on scene on Broad Street in Sheffield for over 24 hours after we were called following concerns for a man inside a property, who is alleged to be in possession of weapons and a risk to himself. "Residents from a residential apartment block were evacuated from their properties and remain evacuated at this time.
