A woman whose former colleague put out a desperate plea on Facebook for an organ donor has saved his life after offering him one of her kidneys.

Lauren Lane, 30, and Jamie Lonsdale, 36, both from Manchester, have sparked an unbelievable friendship and heart-warming bond after it was miraculously confirmed the pair were a medical match.

Lauren, a PHD student in cell biology, tragically lost her dad aged just 54. He passed away from non-alcoholic vascular disease in 2018 and needed a liver transplant - but a donor could not be found. It was earlier this year, after years of spending days hooked up to life-saving dialysis machines for his failing kidney and battling gruelling side effects of kidney failure for the second time round, that Jamie posted a desperate plea on social media for a donor in hopes of finding a match.
