Naman Ramachandran Shah Rukh Khan-starring blockbuster “Jawan” scored a $62.7 million worldwide weekend, making it the second highest grossing film in the world after “The Nun II” ($85.3 million), according to provisional numbers released by ComScore. “The Equalizer 3,” starring Denzel Washington was third with $23.6 million, according to ComScore. “Jawan,” featuring Khan in a dual role as a father and son who set out to rectify corruption in Indian society, opened on Sept.
7 and shattered the star’s own Bollywood opening day record. Its Hindi-language version grossed $9.4 million in India, with a further $1.3 million from Tamil and Telugu-language dubbed versions, according to data from producer Red Chillies Entertainment.
Khan’s “Pathaan,” which released in January, was the previous record holder for a Hindi-language film, grossing $8.32 million in India and a further $4.5 million in overseas territories on its first day in cinemas, for a worldwide gross total of $12.7 million.
In the U.S., ComScore data shows “Jawan” collected $6.2 million in its opening weekend, making it the fourth highest grosser.
