Most holidaymakers know that flying with a budget airline means you have to pay extra to choose your own seat on the plane. If you don't you will be allocated a seat and that can mean sitting away from family and friends.

But even when you do shell out cash to pick your seat, the trend for 'squatting' could see you left frustrated. Earlier this year, this annoying practice came to light when TikTok user Shannon Ella vented her frustration at 'seat squatting' in a viral video.

Another passenger on her flight took her seat and refused to move. Shannon said: "Is that a thing people are doing on planes now?

They just sit in your seat and just go like, 'No, it's mine, I sat there first so minesies?" And Reddit forums are full of tales of these types of 'squatters' doing the same thing.The rules of seating on planes vary according to which carrier you are using and whether you choose to pay or take your chances, reports the Mirror.
