Edinburgh estate agency has looked into the housing landscape for Scottish first-time buyers across the past 20 years. The study by Coulters Property looked at how much would-be homebuyers need to be able to afford a 10 per cent deposit, how much this is as a percentage of average annual income, and how this has changed over the last two decades.
The data revealed that in 1999 the average deposit for a house on sale for £49,924 was £4,992. Fast forward to 2020 and the deposit for a £152,469 home will set buyers back £15,247.
The research by Coulters Property found that in Scotland there is a house price difference of 205.40 per cent between 1999 and 2020.
