The Scottish Government has confirmed there have been 2,888 new Covid-19 cases in the latest 24 hour period. According to the latest figures for Scotland there were 21 new deaths recorded, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 9,545.The total number of cases since March 2020 stands at 718,285.There are also 60 patients in intensive care units across the country.To date, 4,343,208 people have received their first vaccination with 3,944,225 having had a second jab.It comes as Nicola Sturgeon said Scots should not be "pressing the panic button" over growing concerns about a new variant of covid discovered in southern Africa.
