The Scottish Government has confirmed 16 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. It brings the death toll since the start of the pandemic under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 10,165.

The latest figures for Scotland show 7,162 new cases have also been identified overnight. There are currently 1,511 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 43 being treated in intensive care.So far, 4,404,268 people have received their first vaccination with 4,099,222 having a second jab and 3,238,127 receiving a third dose or booster. The figures come as Nicola Sturgeon has been reported to the UK statistics authority over claims the First Minister "seriously twisted" data on Covid infections. The SNP leader claimed this week figures compiled by the ONS showed infections in England were "20 per cent higher" than in Scotland. But that interpretation of the numbers has since been challenged - with opposition MSPs pointing out the same report estimates that around one in 20 members of the public had covid last week on both sides of the Border.More Covid restrictions will also be lifted from Monday next week with rules on table service and social distancing being scrapped at Scots hospitality venues.Nightclubs and large indoor events will also be able to open as restrictions ease.
