Scott McTominay touted for Man United striking role but Erik ten Hag takes hardline stance over Scotland hero

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has praised Scott McTominay but insisted the Scotland superstar's best position is in midfield - and not up front.The 26-year-old scored four goals in two games for Steve Clarke's men during the international break when he bagged a double against Cyprus and former World Cup winners Spain.

Scotland sit top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group after two games and with a trip to Oslo in June to face Norway they will be hoping for nine point out of nine.McTominay has struggled for game time this season at Manchester United under the Dutch manager.

During his pre-match press conference ahead of United's trip to Newcastle on Sunday ten Hag was asked about the possibility of playing McTominay further forward.
