Ayr United have appointed Scott Brown as their new manager with an official announcement expected on Wednesday morning. The Honest Men showed Lee Bullen the door earlier this month with the club facing a battle for survival in the Scottish Championship - with the club in ninth spot and occupying the relegation playoff spot and just two points over rock bottom Arbroath.
The Somerset Park side have now turned to the former Fleetwood Town boss as Brown returns to the dugout for the first time since being axed by the English League One outfit earlier in the season.
While survival in Scotland's second tier will be top of the agenda for former Celtic captain Brown as he steps into the hot seat, he will also face off against a familiar foe with Ayr taking on Rangers in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox next month.
Brown guided Fleetwood to a club-record FA Cup run last season - and he will be looking to cause a major upset when he arrives in Govan.
