A student who let a stranded gran stay at her flat after she missed her last bus is now one of her best pals despite a 52-year age gap.

Rebecca McCurry, 19, didn’t hesitate to offer gran-of-five Ann, 71, a place to stay for the night after she spotted her wandering the streets of Glasgow alone.

After joining a party Rebecca was at and staying the night at her student halls, grateful Ann headed back to Dumfriesshire but the pair stayed in touch.

Now, the pals talk every day and visit each other regularly.Rebecca, a sociology student at the University of West of Scotland, said: “I was at a party and I went outside and spotted her.“She’d been wandering the streets for hours after missing her bus.“I just said, ‘You’ll sleep with me tonight’, and she looked so thankful.“The next morning, I was a bit shocked to see a tuft of her hair poking out of my bed but then I remembered I’d let her stay.“We’ve stayed in touch and we’re great friends.“She’s so cool and I learn so much from her.” Ann had been in Glasgow visiting her sick brother and was unable to stay in a hotel because of Covid rules so she planned to just walk the streets all night.
