Two sisters have spoken of their joy at seeing their mum’s beloved 1940s dancing shoes restored to their glittering former glory - after turning to TV’s The Repair Shop.Fiona McCafferty, 56, and Janice MacDonald, 64, from Hamilton, were desperate to see the 80-year-old shoes sparkle again after their mum Betty passed away aged 89.As children, Fiona and Janice loved nothing more than to dress up in the shoes, which are now a link to their much-missed mum.Janice said: “The shoes were among mum’s most treasured possessions and reminded her of her younger days when she would go dancing the night away in Glasgow’s famous dance halls during the 1940s and 50s.

That’s where she met our dad, Robert.“The shoes encapsulate everything about our mum. She just loved to dance and the shoes brought her so much pleasure that we were desperate to somehow have them restored.“Mum was very outgoing, always full of fun and there was always music in the house but with four of us children to look after for a while she didn’t have the time to enjoy dancing.

Later on she went back to it and the last time she danced was at my 60th birthday.”Fiona, a project administrator with the NHS, added: “The shoes are a great representation of her personality and of her life and that is why they mean so much to us.

To see them restored is absolutely amazing.” Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
