Scots shop reduced to rubble as wall collapses during Storm Eowyn

A shop in a Scots street has been reduced to rubble after a partial collapse as it was battered by Storm Eowyn.The Co-op store, in Stirling Street, Denny, Falkirk, partially collapsed to the street below.The building was so badly damaged the almost the entire gable end has been destroyed.Residents have been urged to stay away from the area over safety fears.Falkirk Council said that a structural engineer had been due to arrive later today (Friday) to inspect the damage.A council spokesperson said: “Following the partial collapse of a building adjacent to Denny Cross, we urge everyone to stay away from this area immediately.

Click here for more news and sport from the Stirling area. “A structural engineer will be on site shortly to fully review the damage, and we will make the area secure as quickly as possible once it is safe.”A building in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, was also badly damaged by the storm as a section of its gable end was reduced to rubble.The damaged building stands in Main Street, at its junction with Gilmour Street, and is also home to the Halo Hair Salon.

Above the salon are residential residences.Images from the location on Friday afternoon show large piles of brickwork lying on the ground, with gaping holes on the side of the building.In Stirling, the roof at Cowie Medical Centre’s was badly damaged as parts of it blew off.By Friday afternoon, the surgery, located in Burns Terrace, was pictured with large parts of what appeared to be its roof lying on the street below.
