Scots schoolgirl slashes throat open on nail sticking out slide in playpark horror

A traumatised mum says her six-year-old daughter is lucky to be alive after slicing her throat on a protruding nail in a Stirling play park.Nykola Abercrombie’s daughter Lexi-Mae Lafferty was playing on the chute at Darnley Street park near Stirling Castle on Saturday when she slipped and tore a horrific 12cm long gash in her neck.The Allan’s Primary School pupil later underwent surgery with surgeons stitching inside and outside to repair the huge wound in the Stirling schoolgirl’s neck.After a complaint to Stirling Council, an emergency repair was made on the play equipment, but Nykola, who lives near the park at the Top of the Town, is warning other parents to steer clear as she feels it could still be unsafe.Nykola said: “I nearly lost my daughter by no fault of her own.“She was playing innocently at the park with her wee pal.“We’re all absolutely traumatised, as you can imagine.“Lexi was climbing up the ladders on to the platform of the chute.“She was holding on the bars at the top and lost her grip and caught her throat on a screw that was poking out the platform and it sliced her throat 12cm long and 3cm wide.“This resulted in her needing to be put to sleep on Sunday to have a operation to repair the wound - with stitches being applied to inside and outside.” Click here for more news and sport from the Stirling area.

Nykola said she has been left in shock at the severity of the injury and is waiting for a report from doctors at Forth Valley Royal Hospital who treated Lexi-Mae, adding: “I’m still waiting on the report from the surgeon about the operation.“My mind has been a total blank since it happened.“I’ve spoken to Stirling Council regarding the accident and they’ve since then been out to the park to repair the
