£300. Muriel Jaap, 84, struck the youngster as he crossed the road in Bothwell, Lanarkshire. Traffic had stopped to allow an ambulance to pass but when Jaap drove off she hit the teenager as he stepped out in front of her.

She struck him with her Vauxhall Corsa and sent the schoolboy flying into the air leaving him with a broken collarbone and pinky finger.But instead of stopping she fled the scene on the town's Main Street and headed home.The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken to Wishaw General Hospital on a spinal board for treatment but has made a full recovery.Police launched a high profile investigation which led to shamed Jaap being caught 10 days after the collision when her registration was traced through CCTV.
