Scots NHS hero and 'pocket dynamo' wins powerlifting gold medal at World Championships

She is a frontline NHS hero who is committed to putting the squeeze on Covid-19. But vaccinator Maureen Gordon has also used her formidable strength to become a champion powerlifter.

The 57-year-old won gold at the World Championships for her age group in Romania in August.She then added the World bench press title to her haul last month in Lithuania.Pocket dynamo Maureen has also just beaten her own British record with a lift of 97.5 kilos - a weight more than one and a half times her own bodyweight of just 61.5 kilos.

Few of her colleagues and patients within NHS Lanarkshire know Maureen, who is just a smidge over five feet tall, is a world champion.
