George Floyd has been vandalised. Graffiti artist Symon Mathieson was left feeling "ashamed" of the people of Dundee, after the portrait was defaced in the city's Hilltown area. They painted out the word "black" from "Black Lives Matter" and the name Floyd.
They also painted either a white crosshairs, or a Celtic cross – a well-known KKK symbol – over his face. The Anti-Defamation League's database of hate symbols describes the sign as "one of the most important and commonly used white supremacist symbols" and highlights its common use by neo-Nazis, skinheads and the Ku Klux Klan.
The word "Black" was painted over in white paint, leaving the slogan at the bottom to read simply, "Lives Matter" - and Mr Floyd's surname has also had paint daubed.
